Pinot Gris - Gio

We recently welcomed some wines from one of the first producers we started working with - Jacques Fevrier, from, the Coteau d'Ancenis, the eastern end of the Muscadet appellation. One of our favourite wines from Jacques in recent years has been his idiosyncratic take on the grape Pinot Gris, known in italy as Pinot Grigio, a grape thas become somewhat ubiquitous in recent years.
Pinot Gris is a grape with red skin - very light red - hence the gris (grey) in the name. 99% of the wines made from this grape are white wines where they just use the juice of the grape.
If you use the skins of the grape too (like in a traditional red wine) you can get a completely different wine, as we see here, with this stellar example.
Jacques gave the whole grapes ten days maceration before pressing, resulting in a wine of an amber pink hue, with very slight structure, beautiful fruit and acidity. A beautiful wine for summer and a lovely examples of the potential of the humble Pinot Gris variety.
For the Wright's shop customer we have a limited amount of bottles at the taster price of £20 - a saving of £4.
