William Wilkins CBE is a celebrated artist and renowned practitioner of pointillism - a painstaking and time consuming process that involves building an image from tiny dots of paint.
Brought up in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, he trained at Swansea College of Art and the Royal College of Art, London.
Remarkably, William has combined a five decade career in painting with wider activities which have had a significant impact on art, culture and tourism in Wales and beyond.
These include being the driving force behind the National Botanic Garden of Wales, the restoration of Aberglasney House and Gardens and the foundation of Artes Mundi, best known for its international exhibition and prize which takes place in Cardiff every two years.
